Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have any “ready-made” ceramic pieces available?Yes. Please visit the gallery page to browse through the dishware, decos, tile murals and other great ceramic pieces. If you see one you are interested in, contact Sonja for ordering info and availability. The gallery is continually being updated, so check back often! How can I customize a ceramic piece?Contact Sonja with a detailed description of what you are looking for (size, color, theme, etc.). You may include photos or sketches along with your description to clarify designs. Please do not send original photos or drawings as they will not be returned. If you have seen something on the BoJo web site that is a similar style or piece, make note of it and include it in your description. If you don’t have a specific idea, Sonja can assist you in developing a custom piece just for you…just ask for suggestions! Special dates or names can be added to commemorate a wedding, birthday, anniversary, or other occasion. How do I order a custom ceramic piece and how much will it cost? This cost of a custom piece will vary according to the details and complexity of your chosen design. Contact Sonja for more information on ordering a custom piece, including a price quote. Sonja will send you (via mail, fax, or e-mail) a sketch of the agreed upon design for your approval before beginning the piece. Custom pieces require a 50% deposit prior to initiating work on the project with the balance due upon your receipt of the piece. Back to top of pageCan you replicate a photo or drawing on a ceramic piece?Sonja will work meticulously to produce a close likeness to the sample work you provide for custom work. Keep in mind that painting on ceramics is different than other paint media such as oils or acrylics. A “likeness” will be achieved in your piece, but the fine nuances of typical portrait painting cannot be expected. Back to top of pageHow long will it take to receive my order? If an item is in stock, we will ship your order within 2-3 business days. We will contact you if there are any delays. Depending on their complexity and/or size and the current work load for the artist, custom pieces can take anywhere from one to five months to complete. Sonja will keep you updated on the progress of your custom piece. Back to top of pageWhat kind of themes do you specialize in?Sonja has a broad range of capabilities regarding the subjects of her work, but her favorite designs are pieces with a sense of whimsy or humor to them. She also loves to work with vintage styles and themes from old photographs or Victorian-era children’s book such as Alice in Wonderland. Sonja has also done quite a bit of work with botanical-themed pieces. Back to top of pageWhat are “decos”?Decos are individual tiles. They are often used as accent pieces within a tile area such as a backsplash in the kitchen or on a tiled counter. Decos are a fun, affordable way to customize any tiled area in your home. Back to top of pageHow do I care for my ceramic piece?Always use a non-abrasive cleaner on your ceramic piece. We recommend hand washing your ceramic pieces to prevent breakage or scratches that could occur in a dishwasher. The glazed surface is actually a thin layer of glass and glass can be scratched, so take care not to subject your plates or other serving wear to extreme wear and tear such as cutting with sharp knives, hitting, pounding, etc. If you are using a deco or tile mural on the floor, it should not be placed in a high traffic area to prevent scratching or breaking. Likewise, when placing hand-painted tiles on a countertop, do not place your tile in a high-use area where it would be subject to hot pans, chopping, etc. Back to top of pageHow long will my ceramic piece last?Properly used and cared for, your piece of ceramic art should last for years and years. Over time, you may notice small, hairline crakes in the glaze (called “crazing”) or slight discoloration in areas of light colors. These are normal aging processes for hand-painted ceramics and do not affect the integrity of the piece. Back to top of pageHow do I install my tile mural or deco?We highly recommend that you hire a professional to insure proper installation your tile mural or deco. BoJo Designs cannot be responsible for damages or defects caused by improper installation. Back to top of page |
